Fundamental Cognitive Development (FCD), ages 2-3

Duration of the course: 24 months (Once a week)

The course consists of three parts:

1. Communication Skills

Everybody communicates everyday, in lots of different ways. Whenever two people spend time with each other they are probably communicating. In the age of digital, people are communicating when they make a phone call, send messages, write a note for someone, sending emails, walking on the street and reading screens on buses, train platforms for instances demand our attention as we wait. In fact in every public space, digital images are increasingly being presented for our consumption. Communication is about being able to understand the meaning of what is being realized or done to you and around you. Our course will include:
Attention and concentration; eye contact; imitation; turn taking; object permanence; cause-effect; anticipation; active communication; choice making.

2. Fine motor Skills

Fine motor skills are skills that allow you to complete everything you do with your hands. They involve a refined use of the small muscles controlling the hand, fingers and thumb. While we may not necessarily think of them as "skills", their development allows us to complete day-to-day tasks such as writing, drawing, dressing and self-care, such as teeth brushing. When referring to the motor skills of the hands and fingers, they become more prevalent in digital society. The mastery of fine motor skills is critical during preschool and earlier years in order to prevent limitations as an older student and the possibility of restricted job options as an adult.

3. My first books

Children will learn basic aspects of symbols: numbers, shapes, colours, words and opposites. Each topic will be delivered through games and software. Children will learn how to combine knowledge from my first books and learn to express themselves meaningfully.

MELS Phonics class for pre-school children is meant for children aged 3 - 6 years old.

For the Chinese language, we will normally look at the character and get to know the meaning of the word. For the English language, we will see the word and read the sound. Therefore there is a big difference between these two languages when it comes to understanding the words that are read. This difference will be an obstacle for the Chinese-speaking children to learn English. The MELS Phonics class can let pre-school children read English words based on the sounds that the letters represent. It is essential for children to lay a good foundation in English from the start if they are to master the language well.

MELS English Self-Learning Training Centre (for children from Grade 1 to Grade 6 in primary school)

Children in Hong Kong are facing a lot of pressure from homework and examination and parents are always trying to increase the learning opportunities for their children. However, this is not the only way to help children to learn well. In this present age of IT, children should be more independent in the way of self-learning, in order to solve all the problems in their daily life or in school work. According to this situation, MELS ESSENTIAL provides a new mode of curriculum to the child. They will move from the traditional teaching method to a more perfect e-learning environment. In this way, children will learn more easily, be more interactive and more efficient in their learning abilities.
